The Sign
Today, I swapped my shuttle for a paintbrush and decided to weave…on a sign! Yes, you read that right. While my loom is getting a little break, I’ve been busy hand-painting weaving structures onto the sign for my craft market stall. It’s my way of showcasing my love for weaving in a slightly unconventional way!
So far, I’ve added twill, basket weave, and plain weave patterns to the sign. Each one is carefully painted to represent their unique structures (or as close as I can get with a paintbrush). There’s still one corner left, and I’m thinking of adding a satin weave there to complete the look. Though non-weavers might not recognize the differences at first glance, I think it’s a subtle way to introduce them to the artistry and variety within weaving.
When I started, I used a goldish tone for the weaving patterns, but I soon realized that white gives them a much-needed pop against the background. It also allows for any colors layered on top to shine brighter, so it’s a win-win!
I’ll be keeping you all updated as I finish the sign and add the final touches. I can’t wait to see it standing proudly outside my stall, welcoming visitors to explore my handwoven creations.
Wishing you a wonderful Thursday filled with creativity and inspiration!
Until next time,
Sadé Sadie
